The Mysterious Ways of PPC in Search Engine Marketing

Well, what a surprise!  In the past week, I suddenly started to make sales of one Clickbank product through PPC in the great G search engine. Actually, they apparently allowed half of one of my campaigns to go live again. Took me a while to figure out my tracking code, as I had set it up starting with “NV” for “no views” when I was fed up with the great G — but now, mysteriously, this thing suddenly had views. But how?

I must have left the campaign active because they had blocked me in the past with no impressions and no clicks for 3 or 4 months now. They had wanted me to compete with direct linking for ad space, and I had not changed my bids.

Maybe because they threw much of my competition out of their realm forever, and for some reason, they have spared me for now, my ads unexpectedly were mobilized.  Now I have spent over $500 and made a bit over $500, so this campaign is actually slightly in the red. It looked better for me when the ad spend was 0 and the Clickbank income was 0. At least I was breaking even…

Meanwhile, knowing that the fickle gods of PPC could shut me down at any time, I am looking into lesser gods of PPC, media buys on blogs, and social media marketing. I suggest that most of us little people in the internet marketing world had better move on to a kingdom that is more benign and predictable.

Will let you know the fate of my half-campaign. I am slowly lowering my bids to try to make it slightly profitable. Seems like the thing to do in my self-interest, with shutting the poor thing off as my next best option.  Ah, the rich life of a new IM entrepreneur…
